My Actual Play Podcasts, Now With More Effort!

https://anchor.fm/whatdoiknowjr I reworked some of the audio, truncating silences, and adding an intro and an outro to the individual episodes. By no means am I a proficient editor, but I did want to do a little more work to make these a bit easier to listen to, instead of just dumping the audio fr...

S2E12 - The Alternate

I really like the idea that Ferengi sell collectible pieces of other Ferengi when they die. I don't know why, but it's amusing and fitting, and also maybe a little bit of a cynical mirror of reliquaries. As for the overall story itself, while it was interesting to get more details about Odo, and to ...

S2E8 - Necessary Evil

It's really weird how our perspectives change over time. I'm not sure why my head was where it was at when I first watched this episode, but I remember being upset that Kira, who was already openly discussing the things she wasn't proud of doing in the resistance, but believing in the cause, had com...

Re: S1E15 - If Wishes Were Horses

That is awesome. Yeah, that really felt like they so wanted to use a leprechaun the way they framed all of those scenes.

S2E7 - Rules of Acquisition

This is really more of that forward momentum towards the Ferengi development arc that was vaguely hinted at from the beginning of the show. That said, it's really hard to deal with how blatantly misogynistic the Ferengi in this episode are, and the fact that Quark actually acts much worse around oth...

S2E5 - Cardassians

Loved the Garak and Bashir investigate a mystery together sub-plot. The only other thing I can say is, I really liked that when Bashir called out Dukat on being in charge at the time all of the shenanigans happened, he just storms off. There wasn't a melodramatic "you got me this time, but I'll be b...

S2E3 - The Siege

I liked Krim a lot more than I expected, which just goes back to that conflicted feeling I had in the previous episode re: xenophobic nationalist movements. Li Nalas' arc ending with him sacrificing himself felt unsatisfying to me. I guess I get tired of the "sure will be hard for you to live up to ...

S2E2 - The Circle

Frank Langella is really good in these episodes. I'm really kind of torn, because on one had, the xenophobic nationalism part of the plot is really resonating with modern times, but unlike modern America, the Bajorans have been through some shit, so it's a little easier to be at least partially symp...

S2E1 - The Homecoming

It's hard to focus just in on this episode, because this felt like the early stages of DS9 chaining plots together, not directly as separate parts, like the season cliff-hangers, but as just much more closely associated episodes that were more serialized. I don't know why it feels jarring every time...

Re: S1E19 - In The Hands of the Prophets

It kind of saddens me that if you would have asked me 20 years ago if I felt this "church and state" schooling issue was as important as it seemed when this episode came out, and I would have said we were trending away from it being relevant, and wham! Its getting more and more relevant again the fu...
