Re: Week 1 Journal Entries

Personal Log Yeoman Third Class Baran: Parallax Life aboard Voyager has certainly been nothing less than exciting. Sadly, that excitement is largely the surface emotions covering the fear, isolation, and helplessness we are all experiencing being stuck some 70,000 light-years from home. Still, I tr...

Re: Current Crew

Ha, whoops, I put my species down wrong. Baran is Deltan, not Vegan.

Re: An Idea So Awesome It Might Be Terrible!

Funny thing, I'm backing a Kickstarter right now for a Star Trek inspired journaling game called Captain's Log. It runs another 11 days so it won't be ready in time but I thought it was worth sharing.

S1E11 - Vortex

This is probably the most influential and long-lasting episode of DS9 in my personal memory. Opaka is kai for only a handful of episodes and yet she is The Kai when I think of DS9 and the Bajorans, even though we see much more of another kai in the series.

Re: S1E3 - Past Prologue

One thing to note here, for the historical perspective of when this episode and much of DS9 aired, is that Ireland was still going through The Troubles. The Good Friday Agreement wouldn't happen until '98, as the final season of DS9 was being written. The Kohn-Ma are a pretty direct analog for the I...

Re: S1E1 - Emissary (Parts 1 & 2)

I think this pilot plays better now, both as TV storytelling has changed and as we look back on the series in hindsight. It was a good pilot back when it first aired but it's a very good pilot now. It sets up so much of the core drama of the show: the dynamic of the religious Bajorans vs. the atheis...

Re: S1E2 - A Man Alone

I watched DS9 in first run. When I rewatched DS9 a few years ago, it was surprising to see how much this episode stuck in my head over 25 years. The murder mystery is so much fun and has a wonderful Trek solution. We start to see Bashir's brilliance, even though he's absolutely annoying in the openi...

Hey, now! I find "Move Along Home" to be a fine Doctor Who episode.

Re: s7E25 & 26 - All Good Things

Of the Trek series endings, this is my favorite. TOS didn't really get one in a satisfying way - something I think that actually worked to its benefit as it left fans ultimately unsatisfied and craving more Trek, which paved the way for the success of the films and ultimately TNG, DS9, and everythin...

Re: Week 5: Episode List

No, we're going to time travel back a week for the second episode. It's the only logical move.
