Re: The Lifespan of the OSR and what it means
Maybe to be more charitable, the OSR seems to be interested in keeping the systems in games simple and figuring out ways to stretch the existing system functionality without adding to the actual game by making it apply as content (story content). I think the driving force is older gamers that want t...

Sounds cool, not sure how I'd fit it in at the moment.

Re: To Add or Not to Add to the Game Group
Do you think you'd be able to talk about it beforehand and have him respond positively? Maybe you could explain it like it's in his business interest to give others the spotlight because they're going to want to keep coming back when they get to do cool stuff. Maybe you could help construct his char...

Re: Play Unsafe on Audiobook
I could see striking a balance between safety and pushing your boundaries. Maybe pushing your soft boundaries (veils?) but respecting hard lines. Also that the pushing should be something the player wants to do, not something that's forced on them. I think I read Play Unsafe a while ago. I'll have t...

Re: PTG179 – November Grab Bag 1
I'm suprised Alien Legion doesn't get more love. The first RPG I designed was heavily influenced by that comic. Kind of a cross between Star Frontiers and Alien Legion.
(I have that first issue BTW.)

Re: Everybody's Died
Update, I've been trying to get the other players involved in the description of your fallen comrades. The idea is to inject some fun in the process and give helpful prompts to the player that has to generate a character on the spot. I had it suggested to me to use a mad-libs style word insert. Afte...

Re: PTG176 – Whose Clues
I'd love a game where the clue finding roll successes lead to more and more esoteric clues. Finding a matchbox with a bar name on is basic. Finding a matchbox of an unusual manufacturer and knowing that only one bar orders them, or with a critical success finding a single dropped match and recognizi...

Re: Abstract Wealth in Games (Blog Post)
So many thoughts on this. I think your opener is important. When you first saw abstract wealth you didn't like it. I've seen this with a lot of players. They really reject the idea of abstract wealth at first and some never come around to it. We are so used to thinking of wealth as a concrete value ...
