Hodgepocalypse - Where to go with it?

This is a game that I've been working on for years and as the 5e version of it gets every so much closer as it gets gametested, I'm really not sure what to do with it at a publication level.

It's going to get an official one books release for sure of the main book, and while I could write this stuff forever, I guess how do you setup the mechanism.

What suggestions would you suggest for an aspiring game publisher?

Don't be a Cassandra http://store32.net/cassandra/

Make allies http://store32.net/making-allies/

Use tools that are popular. A lot of the time you have inertia going in one direction but then you hear about something new that will take some extra work to take advantage of. For example when DrivethruRPG became a thing, I hesitated in going all in. I was already using Lulu and Amazon why did I need Drivethru? I should have jumped in.

Make little things. It doesn't take away from your magnum opus to have small projects that you can share for free or low cost. These things help people to know you. They may pick up on your big projects if they enjoy your small projects.

As an example of "use new tools" I really should be getting involved in itch.io and I've been dragging my heals. I need to overcome my own inertia!

Likewise.

I can mostly tell you what doesn't work, I know only a little bit about what does.

That's part of the fun. :)

Mostly, I think you are bang on the money.

this is now the time of small projects while I fine-tune the big ones.

Going to see if I can write consistently for the dm's guild other stuff and get some sort of formula for getting product out from conception to completion.
