Re: PTG175 – Try It, You Might Like It!

I wonder how you feel about incorporating indie mechanics into trad games to start broadening the minds of your players? 5E does have failing forward as an optional rule - "yes, you can open that locked door, but if you miss the DC, it will take a long time or do something to alert the guards&q...

Re: DwDD – Acquisitions Inc Part 2

I guess I'm not seeing the math? as it stands today, a shadow attacks you and drains Strength. in the +1/+2/+3 world, you have to automatically reduce by 1 or 2. And then you have to roll percentage dice or high/low on a d6 to determine which. in today's D&D, you have a chance for the 20 Strengt...

Re: DwDD – Acquisitions Inc Part 2

I'm not sure what you mean by "Why have ability damage and not just have ability score damage"? looking at long jump results, attempts seem to be within a half meter of each other, so the static number feels reasonable to me. seems simple enough to make the base a simple DC - say, 7 or 8 -...

Re: DwDD – Acquisitions Inc Part 2

did Shawn really just recommend getting rid of 3d6 ability scores? I'm not feeling it, and in fact I think we should have more uses, or at least more examples of ability damage. (your strength score is used for jumping distance with a running start, halved if standing) ability damage from modifier i...

Re: What are you reading?

the last book I read was a re-read of "Good Omens" in anticipation of the series. I've been toying with a re-read of the Dresden Files for when "Peace Talks" comes out, and we need to get another copy of "The Wee Free Men" because I want to re-read the Tiffany Aching bo...

Re: The West Wing

I'm enjoying the West Wing Weekly (one of several podcasts) but I'm starting to suspect that at least part of it has become a chapter in the epic prank war between Josh Malina and Bradley Whitford detailed in this twitter thread: https://twitter.com/nocontxtww/status/1 ... 5321462784

Re: Rolling vs Role-ing

I'm half-Murphy and that namesake law seems to plague my life in TTRPG. I roll badly. Even when I'm rolling well, I tend to roll badly when it counts. I rolled so poorly in our Masks game that my character's failures became the de facto storyline. It's gotten to the point that I find myself unwillin...

The West Wing

Because it came up on tonight's broadcast... I remember watching the show back when it started, but then I moved in with Deb, we got married, that whole thing. I recently started watching last October. I've watched it straight through twice and am on season 6 with Deb now. It won 26 Emmys, though sa...
