Re: S3E26 - S4E1 - Best of Both Worlds (Part 1 and 2)

As I said in Slack, these two episodes together are, for me, the best TNG movie. The writing is excellent, it's got a great Trek problem and solution, and the stakes are both intensely personal (saving Picard) and super high (earth is in danger, especially when we see the wreckage at Wolf-359). The ...

Re: S4E2 Family

Again we see Picard being a huge nerd, his interest in his friend's project shows he's got interests outside of Starfleet which we never saw with Kirk. For a guy who doesn't like kids and isn't good with them, Picard does a good job with his nephew.

Re: S3 E18 - Allegiance

I like this episode but don't love it. This is a good example of Star Trek's famous moral quandary episodes, which are where Picard really outshines Kirk who is too much of a cowboy. Plus we get some silly moments where not-Picard cuts loose and acts less stiff and reserved.

Re: S3E19 - Captain's Holiday

I binged S3-S5 earlier in lockdown so I’m not going to revisit a pretty middling episode but I do like Vash and the introduction of Risa is fun (another TNG hint at how horny Roddenberry and the rest of the Star Trek writers were). I do like that we get to see Picard just being a huge fuckin nerd bu...

Re: S3 E17 Sins of the Father

I love the Klingon politics plotlines in TNG and DS9. This introduces them and uses Worf as the lens through which we explore the Klingon Empire. This is how the Klingons become more than stereotypes and Trek moves beyond its harmful tropes.

Re: S3E16 - The Offspring

Admiral: “I must order you to transport Lal aboard my starship.”
Picard: “Belay that order, Mr. Data.”
Admiral: “I beg your pardon.”
Picard: “I will take this to Starfleet itself.”
Admiral: “I am Starfleet!”

Get fucked, admiral.

Re: S3E16 - The Offspring

I believe that this may be the earliest example of a muckity muck being distracted on his cellphone during an important meeting ever shown in media. The admiral from Starfleet research keeps playing with his PADD when talking with Lal and Picard.

Re: S3E16 - The Offspring

This episode Jonathan Frakes’ first directorial credit. What an outing for him, eh? It’s even got Picard’s most gif-able double face-palm. I noticed something right off that makes me happy: Geordi is sporting two and a half pips, meaning he’s reached the rank of Lt. Commander, and is now an equal to...

Re: S3E15 - Yesterday's Enterprise

This episode did a lot of things right. It's a good time travel episode where they didn't get too weird or just hand-wave away inconsistencies. The effects of one moment in time ripple out over the course of 20 years. We see characters are different, though fundamentally the same. I love that Picard...

Re: S2E20 - The Emissary

I would like to point out that the terrain on the holodeck isn't real and can't be permanently damaged by appropriately vigorous Klingon mating. It very easily could have been remade after being broken. Sort of how rooms in Zelda games reset if you leave and come back.
